CONCEPT OF PROBABLE MODE OF ACTION OF NASYA- A SCIENTIFIC APPROACH
Anjali Dabas*, Pankaj Kundal, Narayan Bavalatti and Manjusha Rajagopala
. Abstract Nose is one among the panchagyanendriyas (~five sense organs). Its functions are related not only to respiration and olfaction, but it also acts as a novel route of drug administration in the form of Nasya (~Nasal instillation of drug). Nasa (~ Nose) is considered to be the pathway to Shirah (~Head). So the drug administered through nasya reaches the shringataka marma which denotes the junction of Netra (~Nose), Strotra (~Ears), kantha (~Throat) and siramukhas (~ channels of circulation) and gets absorbed in the brain and removes the morbid doshas present in the supraclavicular region. The present article is an attempt to explain scientifically the mode of action of drugs administered through nasya process. Keywords: Nasya, Sringataka marma, Uttamanga, Urdhvajatrugata Rogas.
