DAPSONE HYPERSENSITIVITY REACTION: A CASE REPORT

. Abstract Dapsone is the most widely used sulfone for the long term therapy of leprosy. It is an important component of multidrug therapy (MDT). It is usually a safe and well tolerated drug. A 26-year old female, a known case of newly diagnosed Hansen`s disease was brought with complains of fever, bodyache and itchy erythematous macular rashesover the face and body for 2 (two) weeks. She was on MDT regime for last six weeks. Based on the clinical findings, she was diagnosed to be case of dapsone induced hypersensitivity reaction. MDT was stopped immediately and she was managed with intravenous prednisolone followed by tapering doses of oral prednisolone alongwith other supportive measures like IV fluid and mometasone-fusidic acid combination cream. The patient recovered well within 3 days and subsequently discharged from hospital after starting of Rifampicin, Ofloxacin and Minocycline (ROM therapy) with advise for regular follow up.
