KARNASRAVA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO CHRONIC SUPPURATIVE OTITIS MEDIA (C.S.O.M) AND ITS MANAGMENT: CONCEPTUAL STUDY

. Abstract Introduction: Acharya Sushruta mentions Karnasrava in the karnaroga vigyaniyam chapter. CSOM is a term used to describe chronic middle ear inflammation. This infectious disease has a high overall prevalence in India. The cornerstones of modern treatment include long-term use of antibiotics and surgical procedures. Oral treatment for a long time induces side effects, and surgical procedures can cause difficulties. Materials and Methods: Review from diverse Ayurvedic literatures, research journals, magazines and authentic internet sources. Discussion: CSOM is well described as Karnasrava in various Ayurvedic classics. The main protocol of treatment is same as that of wound management, which includes various measures to keep ear dry, clean, clear of microbes and providing ideal conditions for healing. Various procedures described in Ayurveda for the management of discharging ear, fulfil these requirements of wound management. Conclusion: With all facts it can be concluded that Ayurveda possesses quality approach towards alternative management of CSOM with use of oral drugs, topical drugs as well as cleaning procedures.
