Abstract The term ‘patient' refers to a person who receives health care services, and its meaning has evolved outside of the context of commercial markets and without respect to the availability or source of payment for health care. Many active components that were previously solely available as prescription-only (Rx) medications have been available over-the-counter (OTC) in recent decades.
