MADHUMEHA: AN AYURVEDIC APPROACH A CONCISE REVIEW WITH DEFINITION, NIDANA, SAMPRAPTI, BHEDA, LAKSHANA, UPDRAV AND CHIKITSA OF MADHUMEHA

Abstract

Madhumeha or Diabetes Mellitus is considered as one most debilitating life style disorder. Patients of diabetes mellitus not only suffer with life long drug dependency but also have high risk of development various complication like renal or neurological complications. Many patients with high blood sugar levels undergo development of fulminating diabetic ulcers and ketoacidosis etc. Even though if patient is on regular medication, doses and dependency increases with chronicity of disease. An integrative approach is needed in the field of its management to prevent complications, reduce drug dependency and improve quality of life of patient. In this article a detailed study of Ayurvedic texts has been done to outline the concept of Madhumeha explained at various samhita. Detailed descriptions of definitions, etiology, types, predominant symptoms with number of complications is given along with elaborated line of treatment and conservative approach with life style modifications has been described in this article.
