ISOLATION OF QUERCETIN FROM PHYSALIS LAGASCAE AND ITS IN-VITRO ANTICANCER ACTIVITY
*Jimmy Alexander, S. Parthiban, T. Boopathi, Dr. S. Jayaraman and Dr. G. Rathinavel
. Abstract Isolation of chemical compounds from plants are now very important and significant now. The plant-based chemicals are less toxic or have less side effect when compared to the synthetic chemicals. Here we are isolating Quercetin, a flavonoid from the plant Physalis lagascae the whole plant used for the extraction. By using HPTLC and spectroscopic methods the presence of quercetin confirmed in the extract. For extraction four solvents were used. Ethanol, Chloroform, Ethyl acetate and Petroleum ether. Then the invitro anticancer study conducted by MTT assay. The strong anti-oxidant activity may be the reason for the anticancer activity.
