. Abstract The process of inflammatory response to bacterial insult and uncontrolled immune response causing osteoclastic bone destruction is analogous to both Periodontitis and Rheumatoid arthritis. The relation and effect of Rheumatoid arthritis on periodontal condition was compared by means of the observed Gingival index, Probing pocket depth, Clinical attachment level and missing no. of teeth in the study. The recorded data was compared by paired sample t-Test using SPSS software. The result established that Rheumatoid arthritis disease affects the severity of periodontal disease. Probing pocket depth, Clinical attachment level and missing teeth recorded parameter corresponded to more severity of periodontal disease in Rheumatoid patients. The study is vital to educate the oral health care givers to understand that periodontal infection can trigger Rheumatoid arthritis and also Rheumatoid arthritis disease pathogenesis can trigger Periodontal disease. The study established that periodontal disease management and treatment can help prevent immune reaction that can trigger Rheumatoid arthritis. Hence periodontal health care is not only vital to oral health but the immune system of body. Keywords: Periodontitis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Inflammatory mediators, Bone absorption, Immune response, Bacterial trigger. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
