A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF MONTELUKAST LEVOCETRIZINE AND MONTELUKAST FEXOFENADINE IN PATIENTS WITH ALLERGIC RHINITIS

. Abstract Objective: To study and compare the efficacy of montelukastlevocetrizine and montelukast- fexofenadine by comparing the safety profiles of two combination therapy in patients with allergic rhinitis. Methods: This was a prospective comparative parallel group study. A total of 60 patients of either gender aged between 18-65 with mild persistent or moderate to severe intermittent allergic rhinitis were enrolled for the study. Total Nasal Symptom Score, ECG and basic blood investigations (Absolute esinophils count) was done before the study. After detailed history and clinical examination the patients were divided into two groups. One group receiving a fixed drug combination of tab. Montelukast 10mg + Levocetrizine 5 mg once daily dose and the other group receiving Montelukast 10mg + Fexofenadine 120mg once daily at bed time for a period of 30 days. Patients were asked to come after 15 days (first visit) and again after 15 days (final visit). Demographic, clinical and laboratory reports of enrolled patients were recorded and analyzed. Result: There was a significant reduction in nasal symptoms (TNSS) and diagnostic parameter (AEC).
