A CLINICAL STUDY OF TVAGADI AVLEHA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF VATAJ KASA ROGA

Abstract

Cough is the most common respiratory complaint for which medical attention is sought, and its impact is reflected in the £93 million spent on over-the-counter anti-tussives each year in the UK. Kasa is explained as an independent disease. In the disease Kasa there is Pranavaha Srotas dusti. Patients suffering from Kasa irrespective of sex, caste, religion were selected from OPD and IPD of Desh Bhagat Ayurvedic College & Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab, after fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria. 20 patients who were fulfilling the inclusion criteria, selected on the basis of signs and symptoms of Vataj Kasa. Diagnosis was made on the basis of signs and symptoms explained in the classic and modern text. Avleha dose mentioned in Sharngadhar Samhita is 1pal i.e. approximately 40gms, but for now days this dose was very high to digest for the patients, so we were started with initial dose of 5gms to 10gms according to age and weight of the patients. Patients were recalled after 7 days. The total duration of the course was 28 days which was divided into 2 major follow ups i.e. follow up of patients for 21days with proper medicine and follow up of patients for last 7 days without medicine. Marked category, it had 50.64% of improvement. In Moderate category, it had 12.46% of improvement, In Mild category, it had 26.28%. In No Improvement category, it had 9.61% of patients with no improvement. Tvagadi Avleha is clinically very effective in Vataj Kasa.
