Abstract

Raktamokshana is the procedure of Panchakarma indicated for removal of vitiated doshas from Rakta. Jalaukavacharana is the type of raktamokshana which is in use since ancient times where leeches are used for bloodletting. This most effective and most unique method of raktmokshana as vitiated doshas are removed from body without using any cutting instrument, so Jalaukavacharana comes under anushastra category. Jalaukavacharana has property to subside immediately the pain, redness, swelling and burning sensation. Due to increased Hetusevan & pollution there is increased chance of eye infection. Prevalence of eye disease is high but there are only symptomatic relief by modern treatment. Mast cells stabilizes, NSAID and typical corticosteroids are the treatment options. There is no curative treatment and also these drug have side effect on long term use like cataract, glaucoma. So, there is need to develop treatment which is free of side effect and has significant role in relieving the symptoms of patient.
