Rupadevi Mopati*, Pramoda Kumari Jasti and Sandhya Priya P.
. Abstract Thyroid is the master gland which regulates all the body functions. It synthesizes thyroid hormone and stored in the form of thyroglobulin. Thyroglobulin binds to the serum proteins called thyroxine- Bindingglobulin (TBG), Thyroxine-Binding-Pre-Albumin (TBPA), and Thyroxine Binding Albumin (TBA) after entering into the blood. The primary function of the thyroid is the production of the hormones T3, T4 and calcitonin. Predominantly T4 binds to TBG whereas T3 binds to TBG and TBA and TBPA to a lesser extent. T3, T4, and calcitonin are the hormones of thyroid hormone that regulate protein metabolism. Iodine plays a vital role in physiology and the biosynthesis of the thyroid gland. Thyroid disorders its causes, symptoms and treatment are recorded. Keywords: Thyroid, Thyroglobulin, Thyroxine, Calcitonin, Iodine. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
