AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF VARICOSE ULCER- A CASE STUDY

. Abstract Venous ulcers are developed due to abnormal veinous function. It is caused because of chronic venous hypertension, leading to hemosiderin deposition in the subcutaneous plane after destruction of RBCs. Finally results in lipodermatosclerosis and then into ulceration. It is mostly found in lower legs and has high recurrence rate. Treatment includes elastic bandages, antibiotics, NSAIDs, C and D. If gangrene occurs then amputation may require. This treatment is costly and has not satisfactory prognosis. In Ayurveda, this condition is not mentioned directly but can be correlated with Sirajanya dushta vrana, Rakta- twak- mansa dushti and strotodushti lakshanas like Siraj Granthi. This is a case study of 41 years male patient diagnosed with left leg varicose ulcer. Considering ayurvedic Samprapti he was managed with Jaloukavacharana, Tila tail abhyanga, Cleaning & dressing with Vranashodhaka Kashaya and Yashtimadhu ghrita and some internal medicines. The assessment was done on the basis of relief of sign and symptoms and Ulcer size. A single case study shows finest results in 8 weeks.
