Abstract

Siddha system of medicine is the most primitive medical system. Siddha system emphasizes not only a healthy body but a peaceful mind and pure soul. Hence, it is unique when compared to any other medical system. According to Siddhars there are 4448 disease altogether which are categorized under three categories as vatha disease, pitha disease and kabha disease. Out of 4448 diseases stated in Siddha literature, we are here to see about erigunmam (peptic ulcer) which posed a major threat to the world's population over the past two centuries with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. “Mullangi Choornam” is an herbo mineral formulation possessing anti- ulcer property which is the rationale to check the synergic activity of the drug as mentioned in Kannusamiyam Parambarai Vaithiyam. Major ingredients present in this formulation are commonly used herbs in our day today kitchen. Further, clinical trials and pharmacological evaluation of this formulation has to be evaluated for global recognition of the Siddha herbo - mineral formulation of Mullangi chooranam.
