Abstract

In fast growing world, where people are having sedentary lifestyle, consumption of junk food and alcohol etc. give rise to many diseases. liver disorders are one of them. Alone accounts 2 million death per year worldwide. In Indian traditional medicine like Ayurveda, Siddha, etc. many medicinal plants which showed hepatoprotective property has been mentioned. Deepaniya Mahakashaya has 10 plants which acts by increasing jatharagni (digestive fire), which helps in proper digestion and metabolism of food. Studies conducted by many researchers on these plants i.e. Pippali, Pippali mool, Chavya, Chitraka, Shringavera, Amlavetas, Maricha, Ajmoda, Bhallatak, and Hingu showed promising hepatoprotective property. This present review article aimed to study the hepatoprotective effects of Deepaniya Mahakashaya.
