AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF ASCITES USING ORAL VARDHAMAN PIPPALI RASAYAN: A CASE REPORT

. Abstract Ascites is the most frequent symptom of liver dysfunction, and liver disease is the most common cause of ascites. Peritoneal ascites is the buildup of fluid. Despite the availability of modern medical facilities, there is no remedy for ascites that is 100 percent effective. In spite of the fact that current therapies only give temporary relief with timedependent recurrence, abdomen fluid continues to accumulate. It might be connected with Jalodara (ascites) which is described in Ayurvedic medical science. Food restriction and medical therapy are addressed in the Samhita. Dietary restriction is a key component of this condition's treatment. Presented paper addresses a case study of a 62 old male patient. Patient has abdominal distension, Edema on both lower extremities, inverted umbilicus hernia with protrusion of bowel loops with ascitic fluid within, liver cirrhosis etc. he was administered Nitya Virechana (daily therapeutic purgation) with argwadh Kapila, Gandharv haritaki. Punarnava Kwatha, and vardhaman pipali rasayan were also part of medication to promote rejuvenation of liver. A strict diet of dugdhapan and bajara roti was followed. Patient was hospitalized for 21 days. After completion of medication a marked improvement patient's symptoms are observed. Liver function test showed improvement. Bilirubin total was reduced from 2.21 mg/dl to 1.5 mg/dl, whereas albumin was unchanged. Moreover, A similar improvement was noted in ultrasonographic findings compared to a previous report. As a result, the Ayurvedic management of ascites was finished. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ayurvedic treatment of ascites is effective. Keywords: Ascites, Jalodar, vardhaman-pipali, Ayurved.
