AYURVEDIC MANAGEMENT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDAR W.S.R.T. VIDDHA CHIKITSA – A REVIEW STUDY

. Abstract The perfect balance of mind and soul is considered as complete health in Ayurveda. Ayurveda has its own identity as most ancient and traditional system of medicine in India. Ayurveda emphasizes its treatment modalities into three parts viz Daivavyapashraya, Yuktivyapashraya, Satvavajaya Chikitsa. Yuktivyapashraya Chikitsa mention in Charak Samhita and it is used as new concept of Viddha treatment in Ayurveda. Psychosomatic disorder are routinely observed in many forms in present day life. This is outcome of many stressinduced and environmental factors which play an important role in day to day life. The effectiveness of „Traditional mental health promoting practices‟ was identified as health regimens. Swasthavruta, Sadavrutta and Yogabhyas along with therapies and certain special procedures recommended by the Acharyas. Viddha Chikitsa is one of such procedure mentioned in Ayurveda by Acharya Shushrut and Acharya Vaghhata. In India, since many years, some private practitioner‟s were using and are still using this Viddha Chikitsa to treat Unmad, Apasmar like psychological disorders. This article is an honest attempt to re-introduce and inculcate the importance and application of this therapy and simultaneously treating patient with Shodhana, Shamana Chikitsa narrated in Ayurveda.
