CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE- AN AYURVEDIC OUTLOOK

. Abstract Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is an important disease affecting millions of people worldwide and is also an important health hazard in our country. Number of prevalent Chronic kidney disease patients will continue to rise reflecting the growing elderly population and increasing number of patients with Diabetes mellitus and Hypertension. According to Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation there are more than 7.8 million CKD patients in India. In ayurvedic literature Trimarma’s are considered as the vital and delicate parts of our body which includes Shiro, Hridaya and Basti and these are also considered as Sadyo Pranahara Marmas. Ayurveda also stressed regarding the concept of Marmabhighata in various contexts i.e in Shotha, Visarpa, Hridroga etc. Basti is one among the Trimarma and it is the Moolasthana of Mootravaha Srotus and under Mootravaha sroto dushti vikaras we get certain maladies such as Ashmari, Mootrakrichra and Mootraghata. Different urinary tract disorders have to be understood under the umbrella of Mootraghata. Hence this paper is an effort to understand Chronic Kidney Disease and its ayurvedic perspective.
