ANTACID ACTIVITY OF CUCURBITA MAXIMA SPROUTED SEEDS POWDER
Sampath*, C. Jothimanivannan, V. Sasi Kumar and M. Vanitha
. Abstract The purpose of the study is to demonstrate the antacid activity of Pumpkin sprouted seed powders. For determination of Acid neutralizing capacity of Cucurbita sprouted seeds powder, Fordtran’s titration model is used. For determination of acid neutralizing capacity of C.maxima sprouted seeds powder, the temperature is maintained at 37ºC and it is allowed to remain in contact with 0.1M Hcl in a thermostatically controlled water bath and pH is measured at regular intervals of 5 minutes. pH meter is calibrated and it is used to measure the exact pH and graph is drawn pH against time intervals of 5 minutes. Further acid neutralizing capacity of standard 0.1M NaOH is measured against same 0.1M Hcl at 37ºC at regular interval of 5 minutes. The sprouted seeds of C.maxima show greater Antacid activity potential because the pH of seed has maximum alkaline pH. In future this research study will promote formulation of herbal antacid suspension for the treatment of acidity. Therefore a sprouted seed of Pumpkin shows a promising antacid activity.
