AN OVERVIEW OF AYURVEDIC DIETETIC PRINCIPLES OF AHARIYA PATHYA KALPANA

Abstract

Pathya means wholesome diet that gives proper nutrition to body and mind, clear strotas (Micro channels of body) and provide happiness Pathya kalapana or Ayurvedic dietetics is an exclusive food concept explained only in Ayurveda. The main objective of mentioning this separately in Ayurveda as it is not only beneficial for maintaining health but also helps in treating many health alignments. „Pathya‟ means “patha” that is channels in the body. While preparing these Pathya Kalpana, rice and water are taken in various proportion and this changes the properties of that Pathya Kalpana. By following pathya (Diet) an individual is able to keep the channels [Dhatus] healthy, to maintain a balance between Tridosha (Three humors) and maintaining the Agni (Digestive fire). In weak or diseased, the jatharagni (Digestive fire) is weakened. Heavy food if given in this condition can a damage to Jatharagni (Digestive fire) making the diseased weaker. Pathya Kalpana not only helps in diseased conditions but it gives Balya (Strength) and helps to improve immunity as well.
