ROLE OF ANTIOXIDANTS IN ORAL DISEASES: A REVIEW OF LITERATURE

. Abstract Antioxidants are the compounds that inhibit oxidation, a chemical reaction that produces free radicals and chain reactions which may cause cell damage and death. The oral tissues are delicate. Hence, they are more susceptible to cell damage caused by free radicals and oxidative stress. Antioxidants helps in preventing the production of these free radicals. Antioxidants are being widely used in clinical practice. There are some debates about the research methods and dosages of antioxidants. This article will briefly review the mechanism of antioxidants, types, significance and role of antioxidants in the management of various oral diseases.
