VACHA (ACORUS CALAMUS LINN.): A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

. Abstract Since the time immemorial, the plants have provided the basis for medicine. Exploring a medicinal plant with its diverse uses can provide a basis for the better understanding of that plant. Vacha is a traditional Indian medicinal herb, which is practiced to treat wide range of health ailments. The plant is botanically identified as Acorus calamus Linn. of the family Acoraceae. This article throws light on its background and an attempt has been made to describe its synonyms, taxonomical position, distribution, botanical description, chemical constituents, cultivation and propagation, types, properties, action and recent pharmacological activities and shodhan as a scope for further researches.
