A REVIEW STUDY ON NIDAN (CAUSE) OF ANIDRA WSR TO INSOMNIA

. Abstract According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, insomnia is defined as difficulty either falling or staying asleep that is accompanied by daytime impairments related to those sleep troubles. Insomnia is highly prevalent sleep disorder that regularly affects millions of people worldwide. According to the centers for disease control and Prevention (CDC), adults need at least 7-9 hours of sleep in every 24 hour period, depending on their age. Research shows that around 25% of people in the United States experience insomnia each year, but around 75% of these people do not develop a long- term problem. Short term insomnia can lead to daytime fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and other problems. In the long term, it may increase the risk of various diseases. Health is the supreme foundation for the achievement of happy life. Objective of Ayurveda is to accomplish the physical, mental, social and spiritual wellbeing, by adopting the preventive and promotive approach as well as treating the disease with various remissive approaches. Ahara, Nidra, and Bramhacharya are three sub- pillars (Upstambha), which support the main pillar, the body itself. Most of the diseases are mainly due to improper Nidra. Insomnia is the most common sleep problem worldwide and can lead to many psychosomatic manifestations like fatigue, high blood pressure, inability to perform physical and mental activities normally and badly hampers the quality of life.
