PRELIMINARY PHYTOCHEMICAL ANALYSIS AND QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF QUERCETIN BY HPLC OF MOMORDICA CHARANTIA
Ujjwala Supe*, Prarthna Daniel
Abstract Momordica charantia is a member of cucurbitaceae family with medicinal values. Secondary bioactive phytochemical constituents like flavonoids, saponins, emodins, proteins, steroids, quercetins are present. HPLC is a simple, accurate and selective technique used for separation and quantification of quercetin from leaf and callus extracts of Momordica charantia. Extract yield at optimum condition was then analyzed by HPLC for quantifying bioactive flavonoid compounds. Quantitative determination of quercetin, was undertaken to provide an easy and simple analytical method, which can be used as a routine quality control method. RP-HPLC was performed using methanol: acetonitrile: water as mobile phase. The detection and quantification was performed at a wavelength of 240 nm. Linearity of detector response for quercetin was between the concentrations 0.05% to 0.2%.plants Keywords: Momordica charantia, quercetin, HPLC, Leaf, Callus.
