Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder in which carbohydrate
utilization reduced and that of lipid and protein enhanced; it is caused
by an absolute or relative deficiency of insulin and is characterised by
Hyperglycemia. The Ayurvedic management of Madhumeha aims not
only to achieve a good glycemic control but also to treat the root cause.
In such a scenario, the ancient Ayurvedic principles of preventive
(Nidanparivarjan) and purificative measures (ShodhanChikitsa) with
due consideration of appropriate single/polyhedral formulations
(Aushadi), diet (Pathya-Apathya) management have proved to be
fruitful for better wellbeing in Madhumeha (Type-II diabetics)
patients. Various Kalpas are described in Madhumehachikitsa which
are established time to time. Ayurvedic herbs are playing an important role in the
introduction of new therapeutic agents. In this present study nine drugs from
MustadiKwath(Nagarmotha, harad, behada, amla, haridra, devdaru, murvajad, indravaruni,
&lodhra) mentioned in Bhaishajyaratnavali is used for the treatment of Madhumeha to
compared the effect with Phalatrikadikwath (harad, behada, amla, daruharidra, indrayan &
nagarmotha) mentioned in Bhaishajyaratnavali in the treatment of Madhumeha On fasting
