CLINICAL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF VISHAGHNAGANA SADHITA SHATADHAUTA GHRITA IN ACID FLY INDUCED DERMATITIS

Abstract
Background: Acid fly is an insect belonging to species of rove beetle
and genus Paederus. These species found all over the world but most
of the cases were reported in humid areas, hence it’s high prevalence is
around rainy season. It is attracted to light, especially fluorescent and
is therefore a common visitor in hostels, flats and homes. Insect neither
sting nor bite, but releases a potent toxin pederin, when it is crushed
against the skin then develops signs and symptoms such as burning
sensation, itching, pain, redness, blisters and kissing lesions or mirror
image. Timely management is essential to cure the symptoms,
prevention of secondary bacterial infection and further complications.
Objectives: To evaluate the efficacy of “Vishaghnagana Sadhita
Shatadhauta Ghrita” in acid fly induced dermatitis. Methods: 40 patients diagnosed as acid
fly contact fulfilling the inclusion criteria was selected. These cases was selected as per the
history, signs and symptoms of acid fly contact. The written consent was obtained. The
Vishaghnagana sadhita Shatadhauta Ghrita is applied over the affected part of the patient 3
times a day. After administering the drug, observations of improvement was done from 1st to
5th day. Post therapy follow up and observations was recorded on 10th and 15th day based on
specially prepared scoring patterns. Overall assessment was done based on the reduction in
the number of symptoms / severity of the symptoms. Interpretations And Results:
Vishaghnagana Sadhita Shatadhauta Ghrita showed statistically significant effect on Acid
fly induced dermatitis. Conclusion: The properties of Vishaghnagana Sadhita Shatadhauta Ghrita such as Vishaghna (anti-toxic), Vranaropana (wound healing), Kandughna (pacify itching), Twakdoshahara, Kapha Pitta Shamaka, and Tridoshahara is justified by clinical study.
