Abstract Objectives: The aim of the present study is phytochemical screening and estimation of few primary and secondary metabolites in aqueous, ethanol and methanol extracts of chromolaena odorata leaves. Methods: In the present investigation, preliminary phytochemical screening and estimation of total phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, vitamin C, proteins and carbohydrates were performed on basic standardised procedures. Results: The three different extract of chromolaena odorata leaves were revealed the presence of tannins, phenolics, Saponins, flavonoids, terpenoids and steroids. Glycosides is present in methanolic and ethanolic extract, where it is absent in extract of aqueous. starch, steroid and phlobatannins were found to be absent in aqueous and ethanolic extracts. From this scrutiny, methanolic extract was found to have more fractions compared to aqueous and ethanolic extracts. Conclusion: Result approves the presence of phytochemical compounds and amount of primary and secondary metabolites in three extracts of Chromolaena odorata. Among the three extracts methanolic extract showed high level of bioactive compounds compared to other two extracts. From the results it is clear that determination of biological active compounds from plant materials is largely dependent on the type of solvent used in the extraction procedure. Keywords: Phytochemical, Bioactive compounds and Chromolaena odorata. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
