Abstract

Kidney stone formation or urolithiasis is a complex process that is a consequence of an imbalance between promoters and inhibitors in the kidneys.[1] Approximately, 80% of these calculi are composed of calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate. Urinary calculi are the 3rd most prevalent disorder of the urinary system.[2] It carries significant morbidity and imposes tremendous financial burden on healthcare system.[3] With changing lifestyle and climate, it is anticipated that there will be an increase in kidney stones in the future due to global warming, lifestyle changes, diet and obesity.
