IMPORTANCE OF ROGA CHATUSHKA IN UNDERSTANDING THE ETIOPATHOGENESIS AND DIAGNOSIS OF DISEASE- A REVIEW

. Abstract Ayurveda means „veda‟ of life or science of human life that deals with various concepts which are applicable in many ways for the better quality of life. The term “Samhita” represents complete compilation of specific beneficial knowledge necessary for the development of different aspects of living beings. Charaka Samhita is an authentic treasure of knowledge of both art and science of life by which one can attain real positive health. Charaka Samhita is divided into 8 Sthanas to achieve the goal of Ayurveda. Sutra Sthana of Charaka Samhita describes fundamental principles of Ayurveda science. It is further divided in eight basic fundamental principles; these eight parts are being termed as seven Chatushkas and as Samgraha dwaya. Out of seven Chatushkas- „Roga Chatushka‟ gives knowledge about pathology. Hence, efforts are being made to study “Roga Chatushka” to understand the basic fundamental principles of Ayurveda in pathogenesis and diagnosis of disease.
