PHYTOCHEMICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF BEHDA (TERMINALIA BELLERICA): A REVIEW

. Abstract Terminaliabellerica (T. bellerica) is belonging to the family Combretaceae. In Ayurvedic system it is used in combination with Terminalia chebula and Emblica officnalis. It is found all over India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Southeast Asia. Traditionally, T. bellerica is used to treat various diseases including conjunctivitis, baldness, constipation, poor vision, asthma and migraine. It contains various phytochemicals such as glycosides, flavonoids, tannins, phenolic compounds, amino acids, and saponins, which are responsible for different pharmacological activities like anti-diabetic, anti-microbial, anti-salmonella, antibiofilm, anticancer, hepatoprotective, anti-pyretic, and anti-diarrheal. This review article focuses on the pharmacological activities of Terminalia bellerica, which may be useful for future research studies.
