FORMULATION AND EVALUATION OF SUSTAINED RELEASE MATRIX TABLET OF LOSARTAN POTASSIUM
Yogita Tyagi, Ankita Negi, Praveen Kumar Ashok and Imran Khan*
. Abstract Sustained release Losartan potassium matrix tablets by using natural polymers were prepared by direct compression. The formulations SL1, SL2, SL3, SL4, SL5 and SL6 were designed and prepared and all evaluation parameters were evaluated. Overall, it was concluded that the presence of natural polymers (guar gum and xanthan gum) in the tablet influence the release rate of drug. Drug release depends on the ratio of polymers used. In vitro release studies revealed that the release rate decreases with increase in polymers ratio. The drug release from formulation SL1 revealed 76.08% in 12 hours. In this formulation the % polymers ratio is 16.66: 11.11 % in guar gum: xanthan gum. Further the release pattern studied for different kinetic models of in vitro dissolution revealed that drug release was zero order and that drug release mechanism followed super case II transport.
