A REVIEW OF SYNTHETIC STILBENE DERIVATIVES AND THEIR BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY
Bhavana R.*, Senthilkumar G. P. and Pramila T.
. Abstract Stilbenes are 1,2-diphenylethylene. There are two isomeric forms of 1,2-diphenylethylene (E)-stilbene (trans-stilbene), which is not sterically hindered and (Z)-stilbene (cis-stilbene), which is sterically hindered and therefore less stable. These E and Z conformations elicit different pharmacological activities. Stilbene does not exist in nature itself, but its derivatives as plant secondary metabolites are present in various plant species. stilbene derivatives possess diverse spectrum of biological activities such as anticancer, antiangiogenesis, antimicrobial, antileukemic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-HIV, anti herpes simplex virus and tyrosine kinase inhibitors. This review represents some synthesized stilbene derivatives and their pharmacological profiles which may contribute in future to synthesize various analogs and to develop new pharmacologically less toxic medicines. Keywords: Stilbene derivatives, anticancer, antioxidant and antimicrobial. [Full Text Article] [Download Certificate] |
