DEVELOPMENT OF HPTLC METHOD FOR EVALUATING THE QUALITY OF ALMOND OIL AND ESTABLISHING ITS FINGER PRINTING PROFILE

Abstract

Prunus amygdalus var. dulcus (Rosaceae) the almond tree has beautiful flowers which ripen into the almond nut. The various extracts of these almonds are reported to have significant biological activities namely humectant, emollient, anti-inflammatory, appetizer, Sweet Almond oil is wonderful conditioning oil in moderate proportions, galactogogue, used in leucohorrea and dysmenorrhea. Sweet almond oil is a great emollient for softening and conditioning the skin. It is well suited for eczema, psoriasis and itchy, dry and inflamed skin. In order to develop a chemical finger printing profile for the identification and to locate the naturality of the constituents contains which responsible for these activities; the present study was taken up. Extraction was done using methanol respectively by soxhlet apparatus Finger printing profile was developed by using benzene: methanol (8:2) the plates were scanned under UV-254nm and 366mn. The TLC finger printing would aid in identification of the fruits and extracted oil of Prunus amygdalus var. dulcus.
