MENTAL HEALTH CARE IN ELDERLY THROUGH AYURVED AND YOGA

. Abstract Aging is a physiological process that starts from birth, continues throughout life and ends with death. The average length of human life has increased over the centuries as living conditions as well as health facilities have improved. The care of the elderly is draw more and more attention of the government and the public. Like pediatrics, it deals with an age group that has high morbidity and mortality. Mental changes are also an inevitable accompaniment of old age. Mental Health in an integral part of the complete health and is regarded as one of the basic factors that contributes to the effective physical health and social wellbeing. Ayurveda is an ancient science of life that emphasizes on maintenance and promotion of health and prevention of diseases through various dietary and lifestyle regimens and treatment of diseases through various therapeutic measures. Jara Chikitsa (Treatment of old age) or Rasayan is one branch among the Astanga Ayurveda (Eight branches of Ayurveda). Yoga is an ancient Indian Philosophy that includes various life conducts, exercise, breathing, meditation etc which are very helpful in maintaining the physical as well as mental health of an individual.
