Abstract

The roga Kasa is explained in Ayurvedic classics includes many of the upper and lower respiratory rogas as it is evident by the vast collection of signs and symptoms. Kasa has been considered as a roga in Ayurveda with elaborate explanation of separate etiology, pathogenesis, premonitory symptoms, signs with symptoms and treatment. It is also considered as symptom of other rogas mainly the rogas of Pranavaha and Annavaha Srotas Respiratory and Gastrointestinal system. Ayurveda has explained and classified Kasa broadly into Vataja, Pittaja, Kaphaja, Kshtaja and Kshayaja Kasa. Kasa is the most frequently encountered problem in the Balyavastha (Pediatric age). Since Kapha is the main culprit in production of Kasa (cough) and Kapha Dosha is dominating in Balyavastha, the incidence is more in this age group. Since Kasa is a Vata-Kapha dominated roga, its incidence should be witnessed more during the childhood, which is the normal time of Kapha dominancy.The drug Kushmanda Rasayana has mainly Madhura Rasa and most ingredients are having dominating Katu, Tikta & Madhura Rasa. Shunthi, Ela, Jiraka, Dalchini, Tejpatra, Dhanyaka, Maricha have Katu, Tikta, Madhura Rasa that helps to pacifies the Kapha Dosha, dominating nature is Laghu, Snigdha, & Tikshana & Pippli also Kapha Nissaraka doshkarma so that in Pranavaha Srotas it removes a sort of Uplepa of Kapha in Kantha and Ura. The combination of drugs is having pharmacotherapeutic properties like Vataanulomana, Kaphaghna, Deepana, Pachana & Rochana which are the main factors for Samprapti Vighatana as most important factor of this roga is Saama Kapha. Vasa Avaleha consists of five herbs with multi-dimensional properties. The drugs which directly works on the roga Kasa Vasa, Madhu act by Pitta-kaphaghna property. Vatahara drugs such as Sita, Go-ghrita & Pippali act with Deepana-Pachana process and normalizes the Vatakarma causing Vatanulomana and pacify Vimarga Kupita Vata caused due to Vimargagami Prana and Apana Vayu.
