A BRIEF REVIEW ON JARUL (Lagerstroemia flosreginae) (L.) pers. IN VEDAS AND SAMHITA: ANTIDIABETIC PLANT

Abstract
Herbal medicines are being used by mankind for several years. In
recent decade there has been a tremendous increase in interest towards
plant based medicines, especially for new sources of drugs. Jarul is a
well known plant of ancient medical sciences. Although Jarul is not
described directly in Old Ayurvedic Literature while it described under
the variety of Tinisha in Bhava Prakash Nighantu. So we have taken
reference of Jarul in Ayurvedic text as a variety of Tinisha. It is
described almost all Samhita’s and Nighantus of Ayurveda. It is widely
used in Madhumeha. Jarul which is described under the variety of
Tinisha medicinal properties are well documented in the Ayurvedic
text. This article is to highlight the importance of the drug and
references have been collected from Samhitas, Nighantus, Synonyms,
Vernacular names, Gana, Varga, etc have been arranged systematically.
