A REVIEW OF LITERATURE OF MIGRAINE HEADACHE WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO SHIROROGA

Abstract
Shirah has been given prime importance in classics. Shaunakya and
kumarshira Bharadwaja emphasized that head of the fetus develops
first. Shira is considered as uttamanga i.e. supreme, important and
major part of the body. (Ch.Su.17/12) It is that part of the body where
the life along with sense faculties resides. It is the name of mastaka. In
which organ the prana and indriya are present and which is the best
part it is called Shira. As regards the vital organs situated in the trunk,
Shira is considered as one of the three important vital organs i.e. since
the existence of the body is dependent upon them. (Ch.Si.09/03)
According to Sushrut, Injury to Shira may lead to death of the patient
or it may lead to Manya Stambha, Ardit, Bhrama, Moha, constricting
pain in the head, loss of sense, Kasa, Shwasa, Hanugraha, Mookta, numbness, suttering
speech, closed condition of the eye–lids, twitching of the cheeks, and facial asymetry etc.
