ROLE OF SAPTAPARNA IN THE MANAGEMENT OF STHOULYA

Abstract

Sthaulya is one of the crippling, relapsing and commonest disorders in recent era and existing since Samhita Kala. Sthaulya is a well-known Krichchrasadhya Vyadhi multiple efforts by different therapies were made to give a better cure for this disease but every time lacunae were observed. So it becomes necessary for Ayurveda to come forward and give a satisfactory solution in this regard. Sthaulya is a Santarpanjanita Vyadhi and Saptaparna has been used as one of the drugs to cure Santarpana Samutthita Vikara. In Sushruta Chi. 11/9 in the contest of Prameha he has described a single formulation of Saptaparna for Sandra Prameha, which is Saptaparna Kashaya. In Sthaulya excessive, looseness, tenderness and heaviness of Meda are present. So Saptaparna has been selected for assessment of its Sthaulyahara Karma.
