Abstract

PHARMACEUTICO-ANALYTICAL STUDY OF PIPPALICHITRAKA GHRITA

Abstract

Background: Drugs prepared mainly from herbs come under Bhaishjyakalpana. Sneha Kalpana is an important formulation of Bhaishjyakalpana. In this study Pippalichitrak Ghrita given in Chakradatta Samhita is taken and Pharmaceutical standards for this Ghrita were studied. Analytical study for standardization was carried out on basis of classically illustrated organoleptic tests and modern parameters of physico-chemical properties. Material and Method: Three batches of Murcchit Ghrita was prepared by adopting reference of Bhaishjyaratnavali, after that three batches of Pippalichitrak Ghrita was prepared by using Murchit Ghrita. Average time required for preparation of each batch was 2 days. Constant heat of 94-1000 C was maintained throughout procedure. Sneha Siddhi Lakshanas were observed and observations (Temp. Time) was noted Results and Conclusion: Analytical test for pippalichitrak Ghrita shows average observed value of LOD % -0.00, pH-6, Refractive Index-1.477, Specific Gravity-0.93, Acid Value-1.971, Saponification Value-95.83, Ester Value-94.98, Peroxide Value-7.45, Melting Range- 25-31, Iodine Value-3.68.
