Abstract

UpanahaSweda is the one of the type of sweda explained by all the texts. It is the only type of Sweda which comes under both Agni and Niragni type of sweda. Upnaha Swedana is specifically mentioned by Acharya Sushrut. It has properties like Snigdh, Ushna, Sukshma pre-dominantly useful in Sandhigat Vata. In this Swedana application of medicated paste is done over affected part and tied around it for some time. It is the most feasible and convenient form of Swedana that even patient can perform on its own. It is observed that UpnahaSweda is not profoundly used in day to day practice so to establish its importance and effectiveness; I hereby make an attempt to do work in this direction.
