Abstract

The word pinasa stands for severe pratisyaya or dushta pratisyaya.In allopathic sciences it may be correlated with allergic rhinitis, sinusitis . Pinasa is a vata- kaphaja, krichha sadhya vyadhi, which gets more complicated day by day, if not treated properly on time. As Pinasa or pratisyaya causes kasa, kasa causes kshaya and kshaya causes shosh or yakshma. Major symptoms of pinasa are nasa shrav, shiro shool, svarbhang, aruchi, guruta etc. In Ayurveda although there are many medicines for treatment of pinasa but among them kapha ketu rasa (brihat) comes first in quick remedy and efficacy due to its unique combination of drugs. Kapha ketu rasa (brihata) contains shudha vatsanabha, shankha bhasma, shudha tankan bhasma, pippali, maricha, sonth in 6:1:1:1:1:1 ratio. Normally Vati of 1 ratti is given to patient twice daily. Its dose may vary according to age and severity of the patients. In clinical result, it cures pinasa very effectively. It controls almost all the symptoms of pinasa.
