COMPARITIVE ANALYSIS OF LEAVES AND FLOWER EXTRACTS OF PLUMBAGO CAPENSIS

Abstract

Four solvent extracts namely hexane, chloroform, acetone and methanol of leaf and flowers of Plumbago capensis were prepared and compared for their cytotoxic activity using brine shrimp assay. Two extracts chloroform and methanol extracts showed significant activity, while hexane and acetone extracts failed to illicit any activity. Further in the present study TLC based comparison of solvent extracts (leaf and flowers) was conducted, a number of dissimilar bands were observed in both the plant parts.
