REVIEW ON TYPES OF CASES REFERRED TO THE SPECIALITY OF PERIODONTICS

. Abstract No single branch of dentistry can be practiced in isolation. Teamwork and interrelationship among different specialties in the field of dentistry is necessary while treating the patients, to come out with an accurate diagnosis, prognosis and for designing a better treatment plan. For any treatment to succeed, healthy periodontal tissues are mandatory. Therefore, before treating any case, oral health status should be examined. General dental practitioners and the other specialists from the dental field should be aware of the different important case scenarios and the treatment options, so that timely referral to a periodontist will help the patient in receiving the desired treatment. General physician should be mindful regarding the interrelationship between the systemic and oral health, if needed should refer to the periodontist in case of patients with periodontal disease. The aim of this review article is to spotlight different situations and cases that needs the referral to the periodontist.
