ORAL FAST DISSOLVING DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM: A MODERN APPROACH FOR PATIENT COMPLIANCE
*Mitali M Vaidya, Nilesh M Khutle, Parag S Gide Department of Pharmaceutics, Dr. L.H.Hiranandani College of Pharmacy, Ulhasnagar-421003, India. Abstract Drug delivery systems are becoming sophisticated day by day as pharmaceutical scientists have acquired a better understanding of the physicochemical and biochemical parameters of drugs and excipients. The fast dissolving drug delivery systems include open matrix type-tablets or wafers, orally disintegrating tablets, fast dissolving films, effervescent tablets, and fast disintegrating capsules. Fast dissolving films are generally constituted of plasticized hydrocolloids or blends that can be laminated by solvent casting or hot melt extrusion. Fast dissolving films can be prepared by various patented technologies like XGel, Soluleaves, Wafertab, Foamburst and Micap. Present article focuses on the pros and cons, formulation considerations, evaluation parameters and future trends of fast dissolving dosage forms, especially fast dissolving films.
