REVIEW ON ESTABLISHMENT OF AN ANIMAL RESEARCH FACILITY
Saranya U.*, Souparnika T., Sruthi Suresh and Sumiyath Beevi K. K.
. Abstract Animal studies are a very important process in drug development. Animal studies and maintenance of laboratory animals have to be in accordance with the CPCSEA guidelines. Cpcsea guidelines include the recommendations for the location, layout, and design of the animal house, physical facilities, quarantine and stabilization, feeding, bedding, etc. Administration of substances to laboratory animals requires careful consideration and planning to optimize the delivery of the agent to the animal while minimizing potential adverse experiences from the procedure. For all species, many different routes are available for the administration of substances. Rehabilitation is the aftercare that is rendered to the animals that are subjected to experimentation and Euthanasia is the painless or merciful killing of animals subjected to the same. Collection of blood from small laboratory animals is necessary for a wide range of scientific research and there are a number of efficient methods available for that. Various regulatory agencies and guidelines have restricted the use of animals and the techniques used for blood collection in laboratory animals. This article deals with the approved blood collection techniques for laboratory animals like rodents, lagomorphs, and nonrodents. The procedure for the transport of animals is also done with great care and follow certain guidelines. animal carcasses and other waste materials must be disposed of in a proper manner. Adequate staff and records of the animal facility must be maintained and upadted regularly.
