A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF NYAYAS IN GARBHAPOSHANA

Abstract

In Ayurveda there is a detailed explanation regarding poshana, which is the continuous process established after conception and persists throughout life. During poshana of Garbha mother endows nutrition to the growing fetus and to herself, to meet the requirements for growth and development of fetus during intrauterine life. There are nyayas that has been postulated to understand the mechanism of nutrition i.e., Ksheera dadhi nyaya, Kedara kulya nyaya, Eka kala dhatu poshana nyaya and Khale kapota nyaya. The embryo receives oxygen and glucose from the mother through placenta for the purpose of nourishment. Three germinal layers are responsible for organogenesis and hence the different organs get developed with the different proportion and component of the germ layer cells. There is resemblance of Garbha poshana explained in Ayurveda as well as in modern embryology. Hence an attempt has been made to interpret Dhatuposhana nyaya in Garbhaposhana.
