ROLE OF PANCHAKARMA IN GERIATRIC CARE – A REVIEW

. Abstract Ayurveda is the science of enhancing quality and longevity of life and it supports all range of ages from birth till death. Geriatrics is a medical specialty focused on providing care for the unique health needs of older adults. In Ayurveda Jara Chikitsa is a unique therapeutic methodology to delay ageing and also it helps to minimize the intensity of health problems occurring in old age. In old age metabolic activities and other functions of body slow down and as a result the body is exposed to various diseases. As a preventive as well as curative sense Panchakarma Therapy plays a major role in this condition. Acharya Charaka says “He who treats the disease before its commencement or at an early stage experiences long – lasting happiness”.
