Abstract

One of the most prevalent neurological conditions in the world, epilepsy is brought on by abnormally high or synchronized neural activity in the brain, which results in recurring convulsions. Numerous investigations are conducted to comprehend this condition's pathogenesis and create anti-seizure medications. Therefore, using suitable animal models is crucial. Some of these models mimic the course of symptomatic focal epilepsy, which begins with an epileptogenic insult, progresses to an apparent latent phase, and then progresses to a period of persistent spontaneous seizures. A combination of electrical and behavioral occurrences called seizures can cause changes in the body's chemistry, molecular structure, and anatomical structure. This study lists the most popular models of acute seizures brought on by chemo convulsants, electrical or auditory stimulation, and chronic epilepsy. Also looked at were genetic models of absence seizures, models of seizures, and models of status epilepticus in the developing brain.

Keywords: Epilepsy, Seizure, Animal model, Pilocarpine, Kindling, Genetic models.
