VISHAHAR AHARA DRAVYAS IN ANNA & DRAVA VARGAS OF BRIHAT-TRAYEE – A REVIEW

. Abstract In present time in our day to day life we are exposed to one or more chemicals accidentally or intentionally. These chemicals get accumulated in our body and act as Visha (toxin), causing various disorders. So, this is the need of the hour to understand the importance of Ahara Dravyas (food) mentioned as having Vishahar (anti-toxic) Karma (pharmacological action) by our Acharyas. Ahara has been placed first among the three Upastambhas (sub-pillars of body) viz. Ahara (food), Nidra (sleep) and Bramhacharya (regulated sexual conduct). Ahara is important in Swasthyarakshanam (maintenance of health) as well as Vikarprashamnam (management of diseases). In classification of Ahara Acharyas have explained the properties and pharmacological actions of various Anna (solid food) and Drava (liquids) Dravyas, so that we can understand their useful effects on body. The aim of this article is to put forth all the Vishahar Ahara Dravyas from Anna and Drava Vargas of Charak Samhita, Sushruta Samhita and Ashtanga Hridyam collectively in one place.
