A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW ON MUTRASHMARI

. Abstract Mutrashmari is most painful, recurrent and one of the common disorders of Mutravaha srotas. Description of Ashmari is found in almost all Samhita of Ayurveda either as a type of Mootraghata or as a separate disease. Acharya Sushrutha[1] described eight most difficult to cure diseases (Astamahagada) and Ashmari is one among them owing to its potentiality to disturb the structure and function of urinary system. Due to nidana sevana, doshas gets aggravated along with dushya and cause srotodushti and mutrashmari manifest. It is tridoshajavyadhi with predominance of kaphadosha. Mutrashmari is classified on the basis of predominance of doshas, sign and symptoms as well as morphology of stone. Various single drugs, formulations, kshara chikitsa and shastrachikitsa was explained in detail in the context of Mutrashmari. Pathya-apathya also plays an important role in Mutrashmari.
