A REVIEW ON COLON TARGETED DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM AND ITS APPROACHES
Shrikant Uttamrao Paul*, Dr. V. N. Deshmukh and Vaibhav P. Patange
. Abstract In oral colon-specific drug delivery systems, the colon has more lymphoma tissue than the small intestine, which facilitates direct blood absorption, little activity in the brush border membrane, and significantly less pancreatic enzymatic activity. Colon-specific delivery of drugs has become more significant due to its ability to deliver therapeutic proteins and peptides as well as pharmaceuticals for the treatment of local disorders connected with the colon. To create the various dosage forms, such as tablets, capsules, multiparticulates, microspheres, microbeads, and liposome for colon targeting, several formulation strategies are developed based on prodrug formulation, pH-sensitivity, time-dependency (lag time), microbial degradation, and osmotic pressure, among other factors. Various in vitro and in vivo release studies are used to assess the efficacy of drug delivery systems. The study on various methodologies for formulation and evaluation of colon-specific drug delivery systems (CDDS) was updated in this review.
